2003 Detroit Auto Show - Rolls Royce Phantom
Rolls-Royce Phantom

BMW's all-new Roller, the Phantom, is an imposing beast. Riding on a grandiose 140-inch wheelbase, the Phantom is seventeen inches longer and five inches taller than the Silver Seraph. The 31-inch run-flat tires are the largest of any production car—the wheel centers, with the RR logo, automatically right themselves when the car is stopped. Under the long hood is a 6.75-liter direct-injection V-12 making 453 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. Despite its aluminum space frame construction, the Phantom weighs 5577 lbs; still, it can waft from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The "suicide" rear doors, which open independently of the fronts, close from inside at the touch of a button. The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament is also power-operated, disappearing on command into the grille surround. Price? Around $320,000.
