2003 Detroit Show - Ford 427
Ford 427

Powered by a 427-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) V-10 producing 590 horsepower and 509 lb-ft of torque, the menacing 427 evokes the glory days when Ford sold more than a million Galaxy sedans each year. "We walked away from the authority, presence, and individuality those big American sedans represented," says design chief J Mays. "The 427 is a car you take home, park in your driveway, sit back, and let your neighbor eat his heart out." Well, not exactly: the 427 is only a concept. The broad-shouldered, all-black 427 is made up of quad square headlamps, cleanly shaped fenders, twin rectangular taillamps, and near-vertical grille and rear fascia. A center console runs the entire length of the cabin, splitting it into four quadrants. It's hip to be square.
